YourTutor

Don't forget to check out our new YourTutor service. YourTutor is an onlines tutoring service, available for Years 4-12. Tutoring is provided by qualified teachers, from 4pm-8pm, Monday-Friday, including school holidays. The service is free, and is available to all Bourke Public Library members. From the library homepage, go to Kids or Teens, select homework help, and you will find a link. You will need your library member barcode to log in.

Children's Book Week Winners

Congratulations to all our winners. Ashlyn Stutsel was the winner of the major prize. Ashlyn won a Family Zoo Pass to Taronga Western Plains Zoo. Other competition winners were Zayden Berger, Harriet Greentree, Jack Reid, Moira Gordon, Chloe Taylor, Katie Brookson, Rhianna Simpson, Jennifer Ponder, Olivia Greentree, Hannah Amos, Niamh Newton, Anna Ponder, Kayla Amos, Joy Moloney, Isaiah Milson, Shannon O'Shannessy, Darragh Newton, Kate Simpson, Emily Simpson and Harri Fisher. Don't forget to pick up your prize, if you haven't already.

New Library Lizard

A new Library Lizard is now available for download.

Libby Hathorn Book Launch

Bourke Public Library will be hosting the launch of the latest Libby Hathorn book, Zahara's Rose. Libby will be attending, to talk about Zahara's Rose, as well as her two previous books, Fire Song and Georgiana. Copies of the book will be available for sale, and Libby will sign copies at the launch. Drinks and finger food will be provided. All are welcome to attend. The launch will be held on Monday, 24th August, at 7:00pm in the library. Please RSVP to the library on 6872 2751, or email us.

Library Lizard

The new Library Lizard is now available for download.

Simultaneous Storytime

Simultaneous Storytime will be held on Wednesday 27th May, at 11:00am. This years book is Pete the Sheep, by Jackie French. We are encouraging all kids attending to dress up as a farm personality, especially farmers and shearers, in line with the theme of the book. There will be a prize for the best dressed child, to be judged by special guest Mary Jane Stutsel of the Kidman Way Veterinary Surgery. There will also be a treasure hunt. Sheep will be hidden in the library. Find a sheep to win a prize!

Law Week @ Your Library

Law Week will be celebrated this year during the week of 11-17th May. The library will be hosting a guest speaker, Jamie Fisher of Jamie Fisher & Associates. Jamie will be speaking on the topic of Neighbours, Householders and the Law. The session will be held on Thursday 14th May, at 11:00am, in the library. Morning tea will be available from 10:30am.

Throughout the week we will be highlighting the legal services and information available both in the library and online. If you would like a demonstration, just ask at the counter.

New Library Bags

Our new library bags have arrived. The new bags are eco-friendly smart bags, in a great purple colour. Make sure you get your bag!

Family Week @ Your Library

Family Week will be celebrated during the week of 10-16th May. We will be holding a morning tea on Thursday 14th May at 10:30am, in the library. We will also be running a colouring-in competition for the kids.

Reader Opinion Bookmarks

We have created a set of bookmarks for our patrons to use in giving their opinion about books they have read. When you return a book, pick the appropriate bookmark, and place it in the book to let other readers know what you thought. Categories include: Must Read, Great Read, Worth a Read, Dull Read, Waste of Time, and Totally Confused.

Mystery Book Month

This month is Mystery Book Month in the library. We have wrapped up books from a range of different genres, and readers can take a mystery pick.

Reading Group

The library is holding a meeting for anyone interested in participating in a reading group. The meeting will be held on Friday, 20th March, in the library, at 2:00pm. Times, days and format of the club will be discussed. If you cannot attend the meeting but would like to participate, please contact the library and register your interest and opinions.

Summer Reading Club

The Summer Reading Club for kids will be starting in December and will run throughout the school holidays. The theme this year is “Get in the Game, READ!”.  Registration begins on 1st December, and reading will commence on the 16th. The  program is open to children of all ages. Everyone who enters will receive a certificate of participation, and there will be plenty of prizes. You only need to read 3 books to get your first prize! There will also be a major prize draw. Drop into the library in December to register and receive your reading log, then get reading! Don’t miss out on the fun this school holidays @ your local library.

PlayAway: New Talking Book Format

The library has a new format in talking books available. Called PlayAways, the new format comes pre-recorded on a personal audio device, similar to an iPod. You can listen to the story through headphones, or plug into speakers or your car radio. This new format is great for exercising, doing the housework, or any other activity that needs livening up! Check them out today @ your library.

New Look Website!

Welcome to our new look website! We have completely changed the appearance of the site, but most of the old information is still available. We have updated everything, and added a bit extra. Please feel free to let us know what you think.

Children's Book Week

The library has just celebrated Children's Book Week. The prizes for our competitions were handed out at a party on the last Saturday of Book Week. For more information on this event, check out our Children's Book Week page.
